Justice coordinators from religious congregations across the nation have heard from sisters, associates, and partners in
mission about the need to uplift a prophetic public voice in response to the alarming events taking place in our country. These
actions include but are not limited to the dismantling of public institutions; mass deportations of immigrants; abduction of
international students; narrowing of space for freedom of speech; dismantling of environmental protections; and threats to
public officials and educational institutions. Given the fear promulgated for publicly criticizing the administration, elected officials have been
silent or ineffective in stopping the fast erosion of our democracy and the government’s role in attending to the common good.
The moral voice of women religious is uniquely trusted and in a position to elevate our collective voice to uplift Gospel values, challenge destructive policies, dispel disinformation, and embody compassion and hope.
Who: Women’s religious congregations, associates, partners in mission, faith-based advocacy organizations
When: Tuesday June 24 (Washington D.C.); Echo Events before or after (local)
Where: near Capitol Hill or your local community
Why: Our commitment to the Gospel, our missions, and charisms urge us to respond to the federal budget reconciliation process that threatens to defund vital programs for the most vulnerable members of our community.
Sisters and their partners in mission are invited to engage in prayer and public witness on Capitol Hill on Tuesday June 24, or through an Echo Event in their local communities before or after June 24.
Local communities will amplify the event’s messages and invite additional support across the country as we collectively call for change. A toolkit with an event outline, talking points, prayers, communication materials, and visuals will be available to assist congregations and partners in mission with hosting their own gatherings.
Please fill out this form to co-sponsor the event. More details will be forthcoming in the next few weeks; we will use the contact information submitted on this form to communicate additional details. Invite your sisters, associates, and partners in mission to join us at this critical time.
